Presented by SEM Geeks and hosted at the Beach Haus Brewery, this one day event called the “New Jersey Digital Marketing Conference” #NJDMC was a blast! Fun to be right at home here in Belmar, NJ with some of the brightest talent at the beach, this conference provided some interesting marketing insights.
While Carmin from Google was all about the future and Virtual Reality with the new Google Cardboard, high end fashion brand Faherty Brand acknowledged that both digital media and “old school” print catalogs BOTH work to sell his clothing line. In addition, Facebook ads and Retargeting via Google gave Faherty great returns on their investment.
Since I do love today’s tech, my husband calls me a “typical teenager” because I am always on my phone. Statistically, per Carmin at Google, users of smart phones look at their phones 150 times a day. Did you ever think you would do something 150 times a day? So mobile marketing is vital to anyone selling a brand or product line. It’s not something you can ignore.
Did you know that the #1 selling electronic device today is… wait for it…wait for it…headphones?
Yes, headphones.
So we can all be in our own little worlds and never talk to another human being…
Speaking of “technology isolation” while working from home is great, sometimes we all need someone to bounce an idea off of or to hear the chatter of co-workers and colleagues. I may try out CoWerks right here in Asbury Park, when I need to meet with a client or find a new creative spirit to work with!
But a company like Salesforce is trying to branch out a bit from just technology. They have a 1% policy on their philanthropic initiatives. Salesforce.org is based on a simple idea: Leverage Salesforce’s technology, people, and resources to help improve communities around the world. They call this integrated philanthropic approach the 1-1-1 model.
1% of their technology is donated, 1% of their people do charitable work and 1% of their resources are used for grants and funding. So, there IS room in this world for profit and taking care of our fellow man? Love it!
Going to symposiums like the NJ Digital Marketing Conference always allow me to learn something new while meeting other marketing industry professionals. This was a new term for me – IoT (Internet of Things).
“The IoT allows objects to be sensed or controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure,[5] creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit in addition to reduced human intervention.”
1984 you say? Yes, it’s already here. There is really no way to be “off the grid” if you want to be “connected”. It is a bit creepy but this is the new world we live in, so as marketers how do we use this technology wisely?
So let’s use that technology to advance and serve all of us.
The #likeagirl campaign produced by IHEARTMEDIA is one of my favorites. Alex Cameron presented for Iheartmedia, and noted that while perception can be reality this campaign could help us actually change reality – when we change our perspective! “Why can’t run like a girl also mean you win the race?”
So, I am happy to “throw like a girl” these days!
Thank you to SEM Geeks and the Beach Haus Brewery – it was a awesome marketing experience down the shore, and I look forward to the next one!
