Marilyn Schlossbach of local “Langosta Lounge” fame was the keynote speaker. She was awesome!
From her website – it kind of says it all: “Marilyn Schlossbach is an Executive Chef and Restaurateur who founded and manages the Marilyn Schlossbach Group, a hospitality company that currently manages restaurant and retail environments along with a catering business in some of New Jersey’s most beloved shore towns. She is an environmentalist, community activist, traveler, and surfer who is on a continual quest for culture and knowledge and shares her passion for the road less traveled with her patrons and community.”
But she seemed so much more than that when she was the keynote speaker at the Women Entrepreneurs Rock Event at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. She was approachable. She was likeable. She was funny. She was casual. Not what you would expect from someone so successful.
As women business owners, we forget to take a breath. She actually had us all stand up (yup, several hundred women in a bar, after a few drinks had to stand up and take a deep breath), and let it out. It actually felt really good!
We need to reminder that “if you want to have your cup floweth over, you have to fill your cup up.” Her restaurants and businesses were nearly devastated by Hurricane Sandy (much like my former home in Belmar) but she bounced back and seems stronger than ever.
She seems genuinely happy in what she does, and in reviewing her commitment to the community makes you believe that people are in the world who even care about strangers.
Looking forward to my next visit to Langosta Lounge in Asbury already…
