Nicole Feliciano is the Founder and CEO of Momtrends Media / Author of Mom Boss
Mom Trends started out as a small, personal fashion blog. Now it is a serious media entity promoting “trends and tips for living a fashionable life”! Nicole was really straight forward about the interesting aspect of working from home initially (as I do). Since you are home, some people don’t think you are really working –but you are!
When asked which social media channels you should concentrate on as a startup, her answer was perfect. She said “Your website is the only property you can control. It’s like your home, so make it the nicest home you can.” All the other channels can change, go in and out of trend.
For my clients, this is so true. Your website is your 24/7 sales person, customer service person and first impression to the outside world, and to potential employees. Make is beautiful, but make it clear and simple so users can find their way around easily and quickly. It makes whatever arena you are in a level playing field, and you can look as sophisticated or as funky as you want. It’s all yours!
The other fantastic statement she made during the presentation was that “God gave me two hands to do two things – not more.” As working moms, we tend to say yes to every request first – then regret it later. Nicole is working on mastering the art of saying “no”. No gives us energy and space to actually accomplish more of what we want to accomplish. I’m still learning to say no each day, but getting better at it.
Nicole recently wrote the book “Mom Boss”. I look forward to reading it, but first I have to say no to something else so I can find the time to read it…
